Are These The Maternity Outfits of the Future?
Maternity Outfits of the Future?
There’s no secret here: I love helping pregnant women look and feel their absolute best—and one of the ways I do that is through my maternity line. Whether it’s a great fitting pair of jeans or a drop-dead dress for a celebratory night out, I think maternity outfits can really transform how you’re feeling about yourself and your pregnancy.

That said, I just read about some new “smart” maternity outfits, and I’ve got some mixed feelings about them. A student at Cornell University has designed a line for pregnant women outfitted with high-tech conductive fibers that can track your vitals (think blood pressure, temperature, respiration, etc) throughout the day. While this is an interesting idea—who wants to wear a blood pressure cuff when you can just put on a wrap dress??—it also seems like overkill to me. Most women whose pregnancies are low-risk don’t need constant monitoring, and I don’t know about you, but if I had maternity outfits like these when I was pregnant, I think I would have become obsessed with checking my stats.
To me, it seems like just one more thing to stress out moms-to-be during a time that should be wonderful, celebratory, and fun (well, when you’re not busy feeling ill, bloated, and sore!). What do you think? Will you be looking for these new “smart” maternity outfits? Should I consider adding a few smart items to my line? Let me know thoughts!
